The association Les Amis de Sergio Ortega (Sergio Ortega’s friends) is dedicated to promoting, preserving, and passing on the work, artistic legacy, and humanist thought of the Chilean composer Sergio Ortega (1938–2003). A committed creator and a major figure in contemporary Latin American music, the author of emblematic compositions that have become universal symbols of resistance and fraternity, Sergio Ortega holds a singular place in the cultural history of the 20th century.

Our mission

The association’s mission is to:

• Promote Sergio Ortega’s musical work in all its diversity: orchestral music, vocal music, compositions for film and theatre, popular songs, militant works, and experimental creations.

• Preserve and enhance his legacy by bringing together archives, recordings, testimonies, scores, and rare documents.

• Highlight his educational vision and spirit of sharing, which view music as a tool for emancipation, transmission, collective creation, and openness to everyone.

• Support the dissemination of his artistic and political thought, grounded in commitment, social justice, solidarity among peoples, and a profound poetic sensibility.

• Encourage research, publications, and contemporary creations inspired by his work.

Our activities

To fulfill this mission, the association organizes and develops:

• Concerts, lectures, and exhibitions devoted to his work and career.

• Educational initiatives in partnership with schools, conservatories, universities, and cultural institutions.

• Meetings, symposia, and research projects focused on his contribution to Latin American music and culture.

• Publishing and music dissemination projects, making his scores, recordings, and writings accessible.
